The River Region Rapids U12 team battled their way to an Alabama Governor's Cup Championship in Decatur Nov. 12-14. After tying for first in their
statewide division of the Mid Alabama Recreational Soccer League, the
Rapids set their sights on the Governor's Cup. Friday
night, the Rapids won a very tight and physical game, 3-1, over Fusion
99 from Gadsden. Saturday afternoon, they would not fare so well and
lost, 2-1, to the East Alabama Futball Club Storm Academy 99 from Ft.
Mclellan. Going
into Sunday, the Rapids needed to win both of their games and hope that
EAFC would lose or tie one of their final two games. The
Rapids took care of business by beating Fultondale Soccer Club, 5-3,
and Logan Martin, 4-1. EAFC would tie its final game against Fusion 99,
giving the Rapids the Governor's Cup title. The club draws players from Montgomery, Millbrook, Wetumpka, Prattville, Clanton and other River Region cities. |
