The goal of our Academy is to provide age appropriate
training for each player to develop according to EACH age group
characteristics. The goal of your RRSC leadership is to
place each player in a fun and energetic soccer environment that
will focus on the acquisition of skill and NOT wins or losses.
Small teams and small sided games are designed to ensure
that every player participates fully in the game, touches the
ball frequently and learns basic skills in the process.
Ages
Our academy teams are broken
down into the following age groups and play 3v3:
-
Mini Rapids
- ages 5 through 7
-
Youth Development League
- ages 8 through 11
-
Youth Development
- ages 12 through 14
[Prior
to the start of the Academy, team roster will be posted]
Training During the
Academy Spring Season
Mini Rapids and Youth
Development
teams will practice twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from
6:30pm to 7:45pm at Stanley-Jensen Field in Prattville.
Game Day
Both Mini Rapids and Youth
Development teams play small-sided matches at Stanley-Jensen
Field in Prattville on Saturdays with special rules. Games
will be played on Saturdays at 9:00am.
"Small-sided" means that each team plays with fewer than 11 on
the field at a time. Small-sided play allows each player
to play the ball much more than in full-sided 11-a-side soccer.
A player on a team with 3 players on the field will touch the
ball nearly four times as often than with an 11-a-side team.
This allows players to learn faster and to enjoy the game more.
"Special rules" mean that the field of play, size of goals, the
number of players on the field, the method of restarting play,
other rules (no goalkeeper) differ from FIFA laws of the game.
The youth modifications that our Academy uses have been widely
adopted across the United States because they are very
beneficial for helping the players learn and enjoy the game.
